OLD MAORI REMAINS
SKULLS IN SANDHILLS
Obviously Maori remains, but of a period as yet ascertained, two skulls and a shin bone were unearthed in the sandhills at Ohope beach on Saturday when work was being carried out at the south end of the beach. These are now in the hands of the local police.
The find AA r as made at the last line of sandhills at the southern end of the beach and both skulls were in a good state of preservation, one even having the teeth intact. Evidence that the other person had met a violent end Avas shown by the fact that the skull had a large gap on the left side. No doubt more bones of the skeletons Avoulcl be found Avith the clearing of more scrub and by digging in the sand. The find Avas made by Mr C. Griffiths.
