RUATOKI SPORTS
RESIDENTS of Rua,toki have shown initiative and enterprise in their decision to stage a sports meeting in that , settlement on Boxing Day.. Details of the programme have already been published but it is to mention, in passing that the Maoris who comprise most of the committer and who will naturally form the major portion of the spectators have decided to devote all net proceeds to the Patriotic Funds. For this reason it is the duty of Pakehas in the vicinity to lend the occasion their support and patronage.
Friday, the 13th. The attention of the superstitious members of the community is drawn to the fact that to-day is the 13th. September also saw a Friday, the 13th. Building Permits Issued. With the value of the buildings sr alterations at £2705; six building permits were issued in the borough last month. One covered the erection of a new residence, two alterations to residences, two for ne\V workshops and ohe for additions to a factory. Several new connections were made to the borough's electricity supply.
Tonnage Figures. For the three months July-Sep-tember inclusive, the Whakatane Paper Mills produced 2,550 tons of cardboard with a 'monthly average of 850 tons. The average value, monthly, was £30,000. Sunday School Opening. Combining the unofficial opening of the new Methodist Sunday school, a social afternoon will be held in the building on Tuesday. The official ceremony will-be performed in the evening by the jlev. R. T}.. Tinsley, of Hamilton, A concert will be presented and this function is timed to commcncc at 7.45 p.m.
