PLANS FOR THE NEW YEAR v STRONG EXECUTIVE FARMED 'Tile committee appointed by the "Chamber of Commerce to go into the matter of running a New Year's E!ve Carnival in Whakatane, lost 110 time in getting down to business. A meeting of delegates took place on Saturday afternoon when' the chairman, Mr Mclsaac,, presided over a most enthusiastic gathering. The whole plan of campaign was: discussed and it was unanimously j decided to run an afternoon for the •children, consisting of a procession to-the square where fancy dresses, •decorated vehicles etc. would lie . judged and folk.dances and displays : given, by selected groups. I'ai the •evening it is proposed to give street lentertainment 7.30 till 9.30 when the close and preparations made fot the finest pro-j •cession of decorated vehicles in tWhakatane's history. It is anticipated that Che procession, which will be judged as it passes up and down the Strand, will occupy a good hour in the -process j \ The presentation of prizes, and 'they; will .be most liberal ones sfollow, and on the stroke of mid-< inightt it is hoped to be able to send rockets from points of x Vantage :nnd generally raise the greatest com motion ever heard in these parts. The following conveners have been appointed to work in with the •secretary, Mr Harry Tennant, Publicity Committee, Mr C. Kingsley'Sraith, Midnight Ball Committee. Messrs Smythe and L. Johnstone, Programme Committee, :Mr H. Tennant to enlist, Street Envtertainment Committee, Mr Tennant -and assistants, Procession Gommittee, Messrs J. Creeke, S. Armstrong Jr., and T. J. Gummings. A Collection Committee was also set up and will be visiting the retailers in the early part of the present week. Members are Messrs A. Bridger and P. Lyndon (right side •of Strand), Messrs Mclsaac and C. ?Kingsley-Smith (left side of Strand) "Messrs R. Morpeth and S. Armstrong Jnr. (end of Strand) Messrs Smythe and Ramson (Rock to Kopeopeo). .
