RACING NOTES
What a Rumour! There was a rumour circulating prior to the recent Ellerslio meeting to the effect that Radiant Vaals was under offer at £2000'. Radiant Vaals is a good hack and should pay his way but the £2000 quotation seems a bit rich. Promising. Having his first run of the season Ascot Bloom took the Melrose Maiden at. Ellerslie last Saturday from a very much more seasoned lot. By Foxzbridge—Curraghmore, there is great promise in Hector Grey's charge. "Gave it a Good Go." "If my horse holds its condition I'll bring back the Cup next year," said Mr Ralph Stewart, owner of Beau Vite, to his fellow South African War Veterans at their annual reunion last week. While Beau Vite did not bring back the Cup he did the next best tiling, said Mr Stewart, lie 'gave it a good go.' Quick Return. During his visit to the recent Waikato meeting the well known,. Taranaki sportsman, Mr A. Lile, purchased the . Surveyor—Twelve Acre chestnut, Trig Station, and reaped £30 of his purchase money back first time of asking when the chestnut filled third berth in the Hack Cup. Trig Station should prove a profitable investment down Taranaki way. A, Reduced Price. Sold three years ago for 2000 guineas, tlie Australian gelding Nig!it Gang was sold at auction recently to his original owner, Mr J. Tait, Adelaide, for 30 guineas, and has been retired. Night Gang had a brilliant three year old career in South Australia and also won sprint races in Melbourne, but he developed rheumatism, changing hands' for 50 guineas and finally for 30gns.
Foxola's Pedigree. The black filly Foxola, winner of five races on end, is by Foxbridge from Aureola. Sportsmen generally and turf patrons know little of Aureola as she was never raced.
She was bred in Hawke's Bay and her pedigree lines are* of a high standard indeed. She is by Hunting Song from Azure Sky by Killjoy— Golden Sky by San Fran from Fairy Gold by Gold Reef from Nymph from Wood Nymph by Musket.
Achievement. > The merit of the achievement of Enrich in winning .the C.J.C. Stewards' Handicap and New Zealand Derby is emphasised when it is taken into consideration that he was a very late foal and that hje will not attain his third year until December 24. Sight Draft, dam of Enrich and Globe Trotter, is now at the St. Aubins Stud, New South Wales, Mr W. J.. Smith having bouught her for 125 guineas. Safari, sire of Enrich and Globe Trotter, is at the stud in Auckland.
.Apprentice Riders. The necessity for giving apprentice riders every chance to thoroughly learn their trade is recognised by most trainers, who, en. occasions, possibly pay even too muclh attention to this side of the racing game. But in the long run it is admirable work that is being accomplished by mentors and at the present time the Dominion has a greater percentage of excellent apprentice horsemen than it.'has had for a long time. The boys are riding winners at every meeting and
quite a number of them are show ing outstanding" ability.
