AN INCREASE IN IMPORTS

Exports during September were valued at £3,193,1)00, or £196,000 more than for the corresponding month of 1939, according to the preliminary figures of overseas trade for the period issued by the Customs Department in Wellington. , The total is the best since September, 1937.

Imports for the second month in succession, were higher than the previous total, and. for September at £1,257,000, they show an in-

crease of £573,000 above the total for the same period of 1939. The value is still some £561,000 lower than that of the 1938 month.
