KNG'S POSITION
SHOULD HE CARRY ON DURING
AIR RAID? OPINION IN LONDON A sharp division of opinion Ims arisen among members of the Cabinet and others who advise the King on the course to be followed by the King and Queen when airraid warnings sound. O'ne section takes the view that the King and Queen should "carry on" when the warnings have sounded and only lake shelter when the bombers are close at hand. Others consider that this course Mould be interpreted by the Foolish as a direct encouragement to take unnecessary risks. Last week the King held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace while an air-raid warning was in progress on Tuesday morning. But in the afternoon the King and. Queen did not attend the War Anniversary Service at Westminster Abbe}' because a warning sounded .just as they were leaving the Palace. A decision to. clear up this confusion is likely to be taken within the next few days. The King himself, it is undeiriood, is a sl;ong advocate of tin; "carry on" theory.'
