Savage and Son's "Tuhoe" Stud Farm, Waiinana, are to Revelation (Manna—White Bud), imported last year. On breeding lines the foals thrown have much to recommend them. Ithaia, by Lysander—Leta, a threequarter sister to Thespian, has a filly to Revelation; Caste, by Posterity—Cowl, has a colt to Revelation; Tambourine, by Lucullus—Tact, a half-sister to Cambria Park, sire of Bronwen and IJandaff, has a colt to Revelation and Min Lu, by King Lu —Elnona, has a colt to the Cam-bridge-owned Foxbvidge, Much interest will centre on the first progeny of Revelation and local turf enthusiasts will wish Messrs Savage and Sons the best of luck. Hacks Better Times. A very interesting fact was thai the Hack Six at Rotorua on Satur:lay was cut out one second faster than the Open Sprint. This demonstrates the cla.ss of Merry Vaals and Kraal, the first and second in the minor event. [Continued at foot of next column)
Death of Foxmond. , In conversation with Mr P. A. Swney, well lcnown Thames VailcybreecTer and owner, at Rotorua on . Saturday, the BEACON learned of" the death of that very promising young mare, Foxmond. A four yearold, Foxmond's last start ..was'in the Ngatea Handicap, at the Ohinemuri' Jockey Club's meeting at Paeroa, and installed a firm each-way. favourite, she confirmed Avondale form* by winning well. She was somewhat off colour on the second day and rt prevented her acceptance forthe Auckland Racing Club's events. Her. death will be a serious loss to> Mr Swney. A Gallant Effort. It was with a truly gallant effort that the hot Golden England, attempted to overtake Honi after the initial mix-up in the steeplechase at Rotorua on Saturday. After taking the first fence- . Goklen England assumed command' and led at the double brush in front .of the stands. At the second v 'of the double the horse suddenly swervedand attempted to clear the outside wing, appearing to crash through the timber. The other horses, close- . " following, also ran off, and Honi, the only one to steer a straight course, was left in undisputed com--mand. By the time that Bells of' Bow, Golden England, Imperial Prince and Leighton Buzzard had' recovered and returned to clear thejump (Dark Rose, going well, had travelled too far and was pulled up), Honi was 2 furlbngs ahead. Goklciv England set oil' in hot pursuit andpassing the stands the second time- ; had reduced the gafafclo about ten, lengths. The chesfiitit's jumping,'asseen ' before on this' course, was almost perfect, and lie made upground at each fence. On the bend Golden England caught Honi and the . crowd cheered the favourite for ;i* great effort. After racing together until the straight entrance Golden - England's impost had its effect aTter the very hard ride, and Honi pulled*, well clear, to win by eight lengths; Honi, finished .well, but it is doubtful whether he ■ wonl-d have had ashow with the favourite but for thoamazing mishap.
