RESUMPTION OF SCHEME 4B The rc-commcnccment of the farm development scheme, No. 48, which was suspended in August in order to place as many suitable men ais possible with, farmers requiring regular farm workers is announced by the Minister of Labour, Mr Webb "With the coming of the farming season," said the Minister, "we were faced with the task of combing every possible field for men suitable for farm work, and that, fact influenced the .Government in deciding to suspend scheme 48. A large number of men who, were previously employed on the scheme of j were awaiting contracts .were accordingly placed in. regular farm ..work. However, many scheme 4B workers are unacceptable to farmers for various reasons, and their continued, employment on developmental work of value to farmers and New Zealand has afread/hjeen or is being ~af ranged." Ifll Saying that the suspension of the scheme had served its purpose in that it had freed a number of single and married men for farm work, the Minister said that, as long as men were required for ordinary farm employmen suitable men for such work would be referred to scheme No. 4B contracts.
