OUR VOLUNTARY FIRE BRIGADE

Taken for granted as are the efforts of most voluntary organisations the work of the Fire Brigade demands; special recognition in these days of absentee members and labour problems. The local Brigade has suffered in common with others throughout the Dominion but it is pleasing to note that in spite of their difficulties its remaining members augmented by several officially on the retired list are quietly carrying on and not "squealing" in compliance with a habit very fashionable at the present time. Whakatane has every reason to be proud of its own Fire Volunteers who in a silent confident manner continue to serve unselfishly in the face of very real difficulties.
