STATE ADVANCES
LONGER HOURS( WILLINGLY SHOULDERED BY EMPLOYEES Far from being dissatisfied with the recent extension of the working cTay by half an hour announced in the Bay of Plenty Times on Saturday, the local stall of the State Advances Corporation have voluntarily offered to work as many hours per day and as many days per week as are necessary to cope with any war time demands for their services. Some three months ago, Head Office asked all offices to consider the question of extended hours in consequence of the fact that some 150 Corporation employees had volunteered for service, and their replace ment would be difficult owing to the special nature of much of the work of the CorporationMeetings of the staff were held at Branch Offices, and the result was a flood of offers ranging from an extra half-Jiour daily to unlimitited offers. A message of thanks was later sent from the Board of Management and in order that the voluntary effort should be uniform throughout the organisation, all offices were requested to amend their hours by adding an extra half hour each day. There was no suggestion of the measure being permanent or compulsorjr, as in fact the additional hours are very much less than many of the voluntary offers, These hours are being exceeded by the local office. the normal hours being observed as a minimum. Much additional work resulting from the war effort has been shouldered by the Corporation, notably the administration of the Farmers' Loans Emergency Assistance Board, housing of Farm Workers, as well as the Rural Hous ing Act, etc. —-"Bay of Plenty Times"
