MINISTER TO VISIT WHAKATANE .MEETING ARRANGED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT Commencing at 8 p.m., a meet "ing of. representatives of the Whakatane Borough and County i and .the Opotiki Borough , and - County will be held in the Wha katane Borough Chambers on . Saturday night in connection "with the. home •defence scheme. The Hon. Wilson, associate Minister of National will outline? the Gpvernment's proposals andl i it is expected that some de- • cision will be reached on their application in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The Borough's' lltojesentatives, *£ipart from His Mayor, rMr B. S. Barry, who will preside, will be the Deputy-Mayor, Mr S. S. -Shapley, and the Town Glerk, Mr '3D: V. Saunders. Invitations have been sent to the other bodies concerned, their representation to comprise the Mayor, or Chairman, one "member and the Clerk. In addition the President of the Returned Soldiers' Association, Mr F. W. K. Raymond, will be invited to attend, as the result of a decision made by c the Borough Council on Monday night, and it is expected that Mr A. F. Moncur, M.P., and "Mr F. W. "Doidge, M.P., will be present. The meeting has been convened at the request of the Hon. 'D. Wil- : son.
