MINISTER Readers will remember that some" two weeks ago the Whakatane Joint Committee of the Order of St. John, and the New Zealand Red Cross Society approved a scheme suggest--ed Mr A. J. Canning, who proiposed that NeAV Zealand should despatch to England a shipload of butter or other primary produce free of any cost J.o the Home Government. It Avas Mr Canning's idea that the necessary funds should be subscribed by New Zealanders and used in this way raither than send the money overseas. The resolution passed at the Joint Committee's meeting was forwarded to the Prime Minister and the Hon. Sec. Mrs D. M. P'earse, is now in receipt of his reply,, which concludes, after acknowledgment, "The Committee's interest in this matter, which is receiyirig the Government's consideration, is very much appreciated.""
