CASE DISMISSED

CHARGE OF OVERLOADING NINETEEN CHILDREN IN A CAR In the Opotiki Court last week, before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., the Transport Department proceeded against R. Bell for driving a motor vehicle which was so overloaded as to be dangerous. Inspector Delves stated that as a result of information he went to the Otara road. A school car came along and when it got near him it stop-» ped and three children got out. When the car came up he stopped it. Twelve children were in the rear seat and four people were in the front seat including the driver. With the three children who had got out of the car the total loadj Avas 19. The car was only licensed to carry ten children. Mr Hodgson who appeared for defendant said that Mr Meiklejohn was the driver. Mr Walton pointed out to the inspector that the charge was "did drive." As defendant was not the driver of the car the case was dismissed.
