BEEF MARKET
IMPROVEMENT IN VALUES FRANKTON SALE In marked contrast with last week, the beef section at the Fr»nkto>n stock sale on Wednesday was very sparsely supplied, the entry being the smallest for some considerable time. Values consequently showed an improvement, this being more distinct in the case of cow and heifer beef than ox beef. For steers the advance ranged from 5s to sometimes 10s a lieacl,, and for cows and heifers from 10s to £1. However, it was evident that had more entries been forward the market would have been a dull one. A good entry of fat sheep was forward, and over the early sales the market 'was much the same as last week, although not perhaps quite as keen in some instances. Fat prime wethers sold from 27s 6d to 295, and choice ewes from 18s to 235. A feature of the fat pig market was the good return for class baconers, one pen of prime making 935, the highest price realised at Frankton for many years. Porkers, however, showed no improvement over last Aveek's rates. Quotations: Medium steers £11 15s to £12; lighter £10 to £11 10s; small £7 15s to £9 ss; prime cows and heifers £6 15s to £8; fat £5 5s to £6 8s; small and killable £3 5s to £4 4s.' Pigs: Baconers G7s to 935; porkers 37s to GOs.
