MAKETU NOTES
PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE The Maketu Patriotic Committee met recently, to discuss further plans for raising funds. There was a, fair attendance and after the chairman (Mr Carter) had opened the meeting, the secretary-treasur-er (Mr W. E. Singleton) read the minutes and stated that the funds now in hand totalled £41 odd. Several suggestions were made for raising funds and it was finally decided that the proceeds for the next function should be devoted to the appeal made by the Salvation Arnxy and the Y.M.C.A. for fighting overseas. This was agreed upon after Mr W. F. Mundb, who was also present, made the suggestion to the committee. The second motion "was that a sports meeting be held on Eastc Monday, on the usual spot at the end of the Centennial Parade, also that the road be closed for that, day and a charge be made at the beginning of the Parade. A sub-committee was formed to \vork up a programme of events and it is hoped to have some good horse events and children s sports. An energetic ladies' committee has been lormed to run> a stall on the site* and sell tea and sandwiches, the total proceeds to be handed to the Patriotic Committee. A special dance will be held on Easter Monday night. Mr F. Rogers, of Maketu, donated. a cheque for £2 2s to the Maketu Patriotic Committee to be spent on comforts for the boys already i' 1 - camp. The committee wrote thanking the donor.
