AUCKLAND BATTALION'S NEWSPAPER FIRST PUBLICATION We have been handed one of the initial issue of "N.Z. Abroad" the official organ, while at sea, of the 18th (Auckland) Battalion Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force and in presenting extracts we could not do better than quote the Editorial. "It is with real pleasure that the inaugural issue of "N.Z. Abroad" is published to-day. The name we have chosen irf purely a tentative one and we would welcome any suggestion for a more appropriate title. We wish primarily to state the principal objects of the Journal, which may be summed Tip as follows: — "To promote that spirit of comradeship, and also humorous interlude which are noted characteristics of the British peoples." According to a German radio station no fewer than fifty British 'planes took part in the attack. On the approach of the enor.iy two German fighter 'planes intercepted the British squadron and successfully drove off the invaders, twelve of which were shot down and nineteen were seen to disappear over the horizon in flames. The German machines returned to their base undamaged. The Iron Cross was not awarded to the Geiman airmen as these seemingly colossal victories have now become an every day occurrence. • * * • "The official German spokesman announced in the Reich yesterday that General Goering is indisposed following receipt of secret information to the effect that New Zeat land troops have already left New Zealand and only the promise of another medal warded off the threat ened attack of apoplexy."
