DAY'S PLEASURE

STREET SELLER'S PET SPARROWS In a recess on the harbour frontage of the Wellington General) Post Office, a man has a little stall for the sale of cigarettes, tobacco and newspapers. The main pleasure of his working day is his friendship with common yarrows which quick ly come to him for crumbs when lie whistles. As the path by his stand is at the hnb of the city, it has plenty of traffic but the birds are not dismayed. They alight on the kerb, and await a chancc to flit through numerous passing feet to reach the feast. Many folk of Wellington have friendships with other birds, including gulls, which soon learn to recognise their feeders.
