BOWLING
WEEK-END TOURNAMENT WHAKATANE PREVAILS IN BOTH SECTIONS The Whakatane Bowling Club was at home to teams representing Opotiki, Taneatua, Te Puke, Opotiki Citizens, Rotorua and Tauranga South at the AAcek-ei\d. Twenty teams competed in the two sections and an excellent standard ,of play Avas AA'itnessed throughout the tournament, the greens being in good order. A Section Avas Avon outright by a Whakatane team comprising Creek, Pearson, Mclsaac and Baxter (s), Avith six Avins and Avas closely folloAved by another Whakatane four skipped by Loane Avith fiA'e wins.. Three teams tied in B Section. Rotorua: Stellard, Houghton, Jones and Kurney (s), Tauranga South: McCullough, Bayley, Watson and Queenan (s), Whakatane: Wilson, Hollis, Hay ward and Gaisley (s), each scoring and a half. The play-off Avas between Rotorua and Tauranga South, the latter Avinning after an extra head, Tauranga and Whakatane also ■ had to play an extra head before the issue could be settled, Caisley's team prov ing the stronger. The final, betAveen the tAA'o Whakatane teams. Avas a splendid match. With one head to go the score Avas all square. Baxter drew the shot Avith his last boAvl after Caisley had trailed the jack. Teams for Saturday. Next Saturday, February 24th, Whakatane is to be represented at Te Puke, and the following teams Avill Teams arc scheduled to leave the Club ground at 12.30 p.m. and any player unable to go is requested to notify the secretary or selector immediately.
