EASTER DATES

Sir, —I was rather surprised to see in the Beacon of yesterday's date "When is Easter,"- which you state t/hat the finest brains in the town are unable to solve. I would also point out that the Christian Churches have nothing whatever to do with it as mentioned in your column. Ever since I was a boy Easter has been governed by the moon. It is the first Friday after .the first full moon, after the 21st of March. Ort' looking up the calendar, I find that the full moon falls due on the 24th of March, so that Good Friday must be on the 20th day of March. If the full moon had fallen due at midnight on the 21st of March, ther* Good Friday would have been on the 22nd. but on the other hand if the full moon had fallen due before the 21st of March, then Easter would have fallen due a month later some time in April. > I have often thought- ,iiy4'ould be much better io have a fixeW date for Easter just like Christmas, so that there would be no confusion. Trusting that this explanation will help to clear the matter up. Yours etc., OLD TIMER. I (We"have to thank our correspondent for the trouble he has taken to forward us the above information.. In view of the above however it is hard to reconcile the printed list submitted to us by a reputable firm of publishers. Can anyone explain. m.)
