BRISK BUSINESS
THE LAST MINUTE RUSH
BUSINESSMEN GRATIFIED
Whakatane lived up to its previous reputation and fulfilled the highest expectations by initiating I the last minute rush prior to Christ mas with a zest which businessmen declare beat all previous records. The above impression is fairly general, and though there remain ; some who complain that their turnover is down on last year's the great majority are fully satisfied ' with the season. | The week's trade, before Christinas eve was steady but failed to reach expectations. However the final rush daring' the afternoon and evening more than made up for the deficiency- and business may be described as most satisfactory. From Taneatua a similar report comes in. Trade throughout the days preceding" Christmas was particularly good. At Edgecumbe the shopkepeers are fully satisfied, while Matata and Te Teko state that they have no room for complaints.
