VETERAN'S PLEDGE
INTERESTS OF NEW SOLDIERS BEHIND THEM TO A MAN "I want to tell you young cliaps who are leaving us, that the returned soldiers of the Great War are behind you, one hundred per cent. Don't hesitate to let us know of your problems here. We will be only too glad to give you the benefit of our advice. While you're away we will watch your interests and you can bet y6ur lives that when you come back again we shall be there to give you all the assistance we possibly can." This was the heartening message conveyed by Mr H. McDonald, president of the Whakatane Returned. Soldiers' Association, to the men of the First Echelon who paraded last Saturday. Expressing the appreciation of the men Major Prideaux in reply stated that it was with much reassurance that they went forward in the knowledge that the veterans of the first division were behind them. He with the others pi-esent were most gratified to see the number of returned men on parade.
