TROOPS ON LEAVE

In today's issue we publish a list of those men from this district who will be leaving in the near future with the first Echelon. .representing New Zealand s initial quota, of voluntary servicemen for fighting overseas. The men concerned are now on, what is to all intents and purposes, final leave before preparing for transport, and it becomes the duty of all who meet up with them to do their bit towards making' the Christmas Leave, as enjoyable as possible. Though the actual sailing date is of necessity a closely guarded secret it is understood that the troops will leave in the early New Year. District efforts are already in hand by way of promoting farewell gatherings and it is to be hoped that Whakatane will not be lagging in this respect.
