WEDDING BELLS

MITCHELL—RIGHTON

A charming Avedding of considerable local Interest took place In St. George's Anglican Church, Whakatane, on Saturday last, when Winifred May, second daughter of Mr and the late Mrs Righton of McAllister Street, Whakatane,, was married to Alfred' Metcalfe, second' son of Mrs T. Mitchell and the late Mr Mitchell of Taneatua. The Rev. S". G. Caulton performed the ceremony while Mrs C. Fraser presided at the organ.

The bride who entered the church with her father, was robed in a gown of magnolia embossed satin, cut on classical lines with the skirt falling away to form a train looped with miniature orange blossom rosettes. Her hand embroidered veil of net was held in position by a coronet of orange blossom and fell in soft folds to form a second train. Her beautiful floral bouquet was composed of carnations, roses, stock and asparagus fern. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Nancie Righton,, sister of the bride, and Miss Helen Mtichell, sister of the bridegroom, both of whom wore becoming full length frocks of green taffeta embroidered with cycla men. Each wore a veil tri match their dress and carried a bouquet of cyclamen and sweet-pea of blending tones. Two three-year-old toddlers, Dawn Mitchell and Brenda Reeve, sister and neice of the bridegroom respectively, made dainty flower girls, dressed in apple-green taffeta with silver halos relieved with cyclamen. Mr Richard Bennett attended as best man, and Mr Charles Mitchell as groomsman. The couple were given a rousing reception at the church door where a large number of well wishers joined in showering them liberally with confetti. The reception which took place in the Parish Hall was attended by some eighty guests who were received by Miss Myrtle Righton who wore black silk ' velvet and hat to tone and carried a posy of sweet peas, carnations and asparagus fern. Mrs ■Mitchell Sen. wore black satin and head veil of net. She carried a posy of gerbera. Mr C. E. Gibberd carried out the duties of toastmaster and saw to it that no dull moments pervaded the gathering. The newly weds were honoured by toast and every expression of goodwill and happiness for their future. Mr and Mrs Mitchell depar.ted._later on their honeymoon the bride travelling in a smart suit of mid reseda with accessories of bottle green. On their return they will make their future home at Taneatua. I '
