WHAT IS A PA?
'Arising as a sequel of the Green Gold Ball, John Anderson, Sampel Campbell, Herbert John Davis, "Albert Olsen and Roland Mcßeth, were charged with having taken liquor into the Tahoraiti Maori pa in an interesting case at the Magistrate's Court at Dannevirke, before Mr J. Miller, S.M.
Sergeant Dyer prosecuted,
Mr T. H. G. Lloyd, appearing for defendants, based his case on the question of what constituted a pa and said that at Tahoraiti there was nothing to show where the pa began and ended. A pa, he said is defined as a fort.
Called by Sergeant Dyer, Mr H. TVL Tatere said that the settlement at Tahoraiti was generally known as the pa and although, except for the meeting house, all houses were Furopean the of approximately 20 acres composed the pa.
The Magistrate reserve! his decision until next Court day.
