And it has man poAver plenty—its officials are tumbling oA r er one another. Take one or tAvo instances of Avhat has been done. Some time ago a track Avas cut leading into the 140-acre pohutukaAva forest. The manuka cut doAvn is lying dry as tinder all alons the sides of the track just Avaiting for a lighted match or cigarette. That 140-acre pohutukaAva forest, rightly described by "Pohutuk«AA r a" as the finest forest of its kind in NeAA r Zealand Avould, if burnt, be a great national loss. The County Counpil may know about milk buckets but -it knoAvs nothing (and apparently does not Avant to knoAv) about scenic reserI repeat "Beautiful Ohope" is in bad hands. On last Monday morning an S.O.S. Avar; sent in to the County Council foi hek> to fight the recent fire. You'll hardly it, but only one man and one slasher AA as sent! ! What do you think of that? Just an insult to those in distress.
