STRIKING PICTURE

LATE R. H. ALEXANDER HUNG IN WHAKATANE CLUB — W K. A striking oil painting of Mr R. H. Alexander, the former editor of the Bav of Plenty Press, and a veteran journalist, who was wellknown to newspapermen throughout New Zealand, hag been completed by Mr C. E. Griffiths, who was formerly foreman of the Press. The portraitshas been presented to the WhakacaricJ Club where it now hangs. Mr Alexander was a popular member of the club. It shows "Spotlight," as Mr Alexander was familiarly called, in his favourite dress of open-necked shirt and blazer, with a typica;lly expression on his face. Though colouring is strong, and may at first; ~ glance held to be a fault, there is no doubt that the artist has succeeded in catching the likeness very deftly, a feat all the more admirable- * considering that the work was executed from memory.
