SUPPLY IN WHAKATANE
DISTRICT
SERVICE TO RECLAMATION
Mr F, J. Burt at the recent meeting of the Bay of Plenty Power Board asked ?!' supply could he given to Onepu settlers on the Te TekoRotorua Road. He expressed the opinion that with a farther block coming into development that the extension would be warranted.
Mr J. D. Dicker explained the position at some length and pointed ont that the board could not go into extensions without having a sound guarantee of the proposition being a paying one. In his opinion the board would not be justified in making the extension, but if satisfactory arrangements could be made with the department which controlled the farm schemes it would be a different matter. Members supported the engineer's stand and it Avas decided to write to the department having jurisdiction over the lands in question. Mr Dicker, in referring to the portion of reclaimed land in the Yv Thakatane borough, said that at present neither the Whakatane Borough Council nor the Bay of Plenty Power Board had a right to supply power to the area. He suggested that the Whakatane Council be notified of the position so that this area could be included in the same application as for the Whakatane Heads.
