DROWNED IN DITCH
INQUEST ON WOMAN
CONCLUDED
The inquest concerning the death *of Charlotte Canning Wilkins who was found dead in a ditch near the -Opotiki Hospital on October 10 was ■ concluded at Opotiki, before >.Ir F. J. Short, the District Coroner.
Dr James, in evidence, stated the deceased was under treatment for a nervous breakdown and was progress ing favourably. She was allowed up on Bch October. On the night of !Jth she was not so well. At 6 a.m. the Sister reported to witness that deceased had cleared out, A search was made for her by the staff and the police. The indications were Hint deceased died as the result of drowning. She must have readied the ditch in a thoroughly exhausted condition and would not have enough .strength to get out. The coroner's verdict was that the deceased came to her death in the Opotiki Hospital grounds on October 10, the cause of death being drowning.
