DRINKING IN DANCE HALLS
The general endorsement throughout the country, for the Government's proposals; to eliminate the drinking in dance halls makes it obvious that public opinion is 'in warm support The growth of the practice has during the past few years made it inadvisable for many people to allow their young folk to attend hitherto harmless and 'innocent functions, which have been ruined on account of the amount of liquor which was consumed. The trouble is not due to the actual partaking of a 'spot' or two by some of the older persons but rather to the_open indulgence by youths and girls who have as yet no sense of responsibility, and from the flagrant example of others consider that they have the fight to make beasts of themselves The evil has become a menace for which there is no halfway remedy, and in view of the harm to our boys and girls—the instilling of vicious habits the loss of balance, and the undermining of moral character, it is better to make a stand which will effectively and permanently stamp it out.
