NEW PLANT

ROAD MACHINE NOT TO BE BOUGHT USE OF DIESEL TRACTORS The Whakatane County Council at its meeting on Tuesday went into committee 'when it discussed the special plant report. A motion, was before it that it should not purchase the £2000 diesel unit for roadmaking as was contemplated, and also that the council should purchase no further machinery. After further discussion when opposition was expressed to spending anj r money on machinery the chair-*-man, Cr J. L. Burnett, suggested that the motion was too severe. He agreed that the bulldozer should noti be purchased but suggested that other plant needed replacement. The diesel tractors now on the market were very suitable and would be more economical than the present plant which was wearing out and needed replacement. A demonstration could possibly be given here, or councillors could have an opportunity of seeing the machines in; action. It was decided that the plant eon* inittcc should go into the matter of purchasing a diesel tractor.
