EXIT—THE CARNIVAL

Tomorrow evenings meeting of those 'interested in the sucessful if ill-fated Queen Carnival, by which means it was hoped to effect long needed improvements to the Whakatane Sports Domain, will decide whether or no, any further activities will be attempted. To many who were keenly applying themselves, the postponement however imperative: it may have been came as a bitter disappointment, and there is little treason to doubt that the £800 in view a.s the target amount to be raised would have been definitely achieved. However there appears to be little chance of the campaign being followed up, in the face of other and more pressing activities which .'will occupy the public attention for the duration of the war. The main business of to-morrow evening's gathering will therefore be the disposal of the funds a.nd the promotion of a final wind-up social evening.
