Court on Wednesday, when sentencing Mataika Meihana vaged 29, lab-, ourcr, of to three months' imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of mischief. ; Meihana was charged with being: found drunk sir a public place on September 3: with committing - mischief by breaking a pane of glass valued at £20 10s, the property of F. H. Bach; with commit chief by breaking a pane of iP-m valued at £20 12s 6d, the Ernest R. Diilicar; with comMfttlng mischief by breaking a pane valued at £1 ID'S, the . property of William Jarrett? and with procuring liquor while prohibited. He pleaded guilty to all charges and elected to be dealt with sujm marily on the< second and third. -OfConstable T. J. Cummings, who said that Meihana was a married man with seven children.. He had been prohibited at the Tie* ginning of the year and had since been twice before the court for brea» "-hes of his order. Last Saturday he went to Opotiki and got parthr drunk. H e knocked around Whaka, *ane and on his way home broke windows. Meihana had been giving a gooa deal of trouble through his drinking ond both in liquor and out of it ho ill.treated his wife. She had paid a fine last week for him out of her family allowance. Meihana was 'ng. on the Public Works DeparU ment t said Constable. Cummings. Meihana said that he had no monpy to pay a fine. The only thing that was worrying him was what wo&kt • become of his wife and children while he was serving a term. - "How long has that worried you?"* asked Mr Luxford.
