DRUNK IN CHARGE COMPANION ALSO FINED Facing a, charge of being intoxi_ catcd while in charge of a car s Walter Paki Tutahi, a public works emplo3*ee, of Edgecumbej was convicted and sentenced to one month's imhis license being cancelled for 12 months. The case was heard before Messrs G. S. Moody and F. J. Short, J's.P. t at the Opotiki Courthouse on Monday and Sergeant Isbister conducted proceecL ings on behalf of the police. Sergeant Isbister stated that at 5.45 on Saturday he and Constable Cooper questioned a mam named Savage who was sitting in the front of a, car in Kelly Street. Savage stated that the owner of th<? car was away but accused was noticed asleep in the back of the car. The police moved away and shortly afterwards the car drove away but Constable Cooper succeeded in stopping it. Accused was in the front seat driving. Sergeant Isbister produced a medical certificate as to accused's condition. Questioned by the bench ? accused stated that he knew that it was the police who had questioned his companion. George Savage, of Edgecumbe, who was sitting in the front of the car was charged with being found drunk in Kelly Street. He was convicted and fined 10s. ... ~
