PRESIDENT'S REPORT I have pleasure in presenting the report for the year 1 938-39 health of the babies has been, satisfactory, and we congratulate Nus Strachan on her care and attention of those who have been in he charge. The business people who advertised, were not tip- 4 proached that day. We also thank the Borough Council for their donation of £5 ss. The-County Council for their donation of £2 2s. The various motor companies for the free transport for Nurse. Ihe members of the Society, also citizens for their generous support. With Mesdames Southey, Dawson and Pcarse. I attended the Opotiki sub-branch annualmeeting. They arc in a sound position and looking forward to having nurse each week as soon as that can be arranged. Wc attended Rotorua. subrbranch annual meeting. are hoping to have their own nurse ii\ August. We attended the Taneatua sub-branch annual meeting. They are 'improving and will be pleased to have nurse twice monthly. No doubt that will be possible after August. I sincerely thank Mrs Southey for taking us to these sub-branch meetings. The Rangitaiki District SubBranch wa s formed on October 27th last. Unfortunately we could not attend their sub-branch annual meeting. They have progressed wonderfully and their finances are in, a sound state. The transport problem is indeed difficult. We quite realise it is a big district to cover, and with voluntary drivers rather awkward at times. We extend our very grateful thanks to those drivers. Nurse Strachan reports as follows on the work carried out during the year;— Number of children on list at end of year—Babies: Headquarters 124, Outstations 241, total 365; Older children: Headquarters 53 Outstations 122, total 175. New cases for the year: Headquarters 89. Outstations 180, total 269, Analysis of feeding of new cases; Bre&stjfed 209, mixed feeding 18,, artificially fed 42., Visits to homes: Headquarters 1099. Outstations 1067 total 2166. Visits to offices: Headquarters: Adults 1454. Babies 1200. older children 152, total 2806; Outstations: Adults 2145, Babies 2159, older children 100, total 4814. Total visits to offices: Adults 3899, Babies 3459, older children 252. total 7620. There has been, a prolonged epidemic of measles throughout the district during the year some of the children being affected two or three* times. Except for a few cases of digestive disturbance during the latter months the health of the children has been fairly satisfactory.
