A VERSATILE THOROUGHBRED
Versatility plaj's a leading part in the best performances of th.< Chief Ruler representative Padishah Last' year lie was victorious in *he Wellington Cup, a race only won by good horses, for no second rater has been victorious in that solidly rnn mile and a half, on a course wherel both speed and stamina are ever necessary. Later in the year he was stepped out for the Grand National Hurdle race ? and with 10.5 won in convincing stylo. Towards the end of the year he contested flat events unsuccessfully, but later again joined the ranks of the jumpers, and on Tuesday last was victorious in the Grand National Steeplechase. In the history of New Zealand racing very few horses have shown such superiority in the range of events w'oln by Pad'shah.
