COW "BREAKS DOWN" The tasks which break-down crews of garages are called upon to perform include many others than towing and lifting stranded or wrecked motor cars. The mechanics of a Hastings garage recently were summoned to lift a cow on a farm at Mangateretere, Avhicli was lying on its side and could not raise itself tb its feet. The animal had been lying on, wet ground for some and in that time had developed severe rheumatism, causing its joints to swell, h was hoped that by placing the animal on . its feet and providing suitable supports, it eyentuailly would be able to walk. Lifting the beast proved to be no easy task, and despite carefully-placed ropes th e mechanics could not succeed. A further effort with the aid of the break-<lown hoist was to be made.
