CARRIER FINED
ASSAULT AND BAD LANGUAGE SCUFFLE WITH RAILWAYMAN Thomas Hunt (Mr Barry) who was charged with assault on Charles McCarthy, at Tancatua, on May 15, and with the use of obsccnc language iin a public place plcadctl guilty,, and asked to be dealt with summarily when he appeared before Mr E. L. Walton S.M. Constable O. Rice said defendant was a carrier who had got into an argument at the Taneatua station with a railway porter. Defendant was a respectable, hard working man with a large family. Mr Barry said the whole matter arose out of a trivial misunderstand ing over consignment notes. No mem ber of the public heard the language and the assault was only a scuirie; no blows were struck. He understood the parties were now the best of friends. i Hunt was fined £1 and £2.
