RUGBY'S SUPPORT AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING A decision; to , support a Rugby Queen in .the Queen Carnival was ih2 outcome of a meeting of At,lilt .tic and Ruyby supporters held in' ' the County Chambers Whakatane on Wednesday night. A committee was set up consisting of all those pre. scut, r,nd a president and secretary chosen. A list, of functions to ra:«e funds was discussed and approved. ■ Mr W. S. Henderson was in the chair. He said the purpose of the meeting was to decide whether Rugby intended to take part in the car- • nival and who should be the Rugby * Queen . Mr L- Preston moved that the meeting,, consisting of football and rthletic representatives, should support the carniyal. This would be decided at the union meeting. An open air sports meeting with athletics seven.a-side football, boxing and wrestling was suggested, by Mr D. Wilson, and this was applied . The secretary was instructed. to engage the To Teko hall for a dance to be held on August 30. Mr Martin thought the Caledonian Society would be ready to give some assistance at this function. Mr Henderson said that at tne first meeting when the carnival was launched he hail suggested that eight to ten per cent of the .takings should be distributed among the queens as a bonus for their supporting clubs. The winning queen would lift the biggest amount. He thought thr„t this gave every club the incentive to work hard. The money would be at their disposal, and could be used for Domain improvements. oi: ; applied, to other purposes. The meet ing favoured the suggestion and the delegates were instructed to bring the matter before the central executive. It was left to Mr Preston to appoint a treasurer. The next meeting will, be on Wed* hesday night, in the borough chambers at 7.30 p.m.
