entertainment arrancje- | MENTS RECORDS OF THE PLAYERS ! It has been arranged that the members of the visiting Suva hockey team which plays Whakatane County on Monday will be billeted amongst the hockey enthusiasts at and near to Ed gee um be. They will arrive l)3 r car from Morrinsville at Edgecumbe about 4.30 p.m. on Sunday, August 6th and will be met by their hosts. The match will be played at 2.30 p.m. on Mr V. Marx's property at Edgecumbe. A dinner in honour of the visitors is to be held at the Edgecumbe Ho_ tel at 6.30 p.m., about 40 persons attending. This is to be followed by a. dance with Ted Haydcn's Embassy Orchestra in. the newly renovated Otakiri Hall. Efforts are being made to make these arrangements a success, and it is hoped that a large* gathering will be at the match and dance, to do honour to the first hockey tourists to the Whakatane district. The management committee of the Whakatane County Hockey Association invites all to come along and enjoy what should be a happy night.
NOTES OX PLAYERS.
The members of the team are R. M. Chapman (manager) age 24, left inner previously played re. serve grade Northern Suburbs, SyxL nev (Wahroonga Club) . Secretary Suva Association.
, M. J Bay (captain) age 30. Started playing hockey at the Auckland Grammar School in 1924. Has played senior grade hockey in Auckland for the St. Luke's University and Papatoetoe Clubs and in Dunedin for the Training College C lub. Has represented Whangarei and King Country Sub-Associations in the Auckland Country Week competitions. Repie. sented Otago 1930, South Island 1930 North Island 1933, Auckland 1932 and 1935, obtained N.Z. University Blues in 1931 and 1932. Toured Australia in 1932 with N.Z. team, represented N.Z. in the only test match against Australia in 1934 and repre-| sentcd N.Z. in all three tests against All India in 1935, Now "bobs" ud in Suva to add another cap to his large collection. His experience and knowledge of hockey have been invaluable in assisting Suva players. G. E. Martin (vice.captain) centreforward. Is one of the more seasoned players. Represented Suva In ,?1I important matches during past few seasons, including three matches v N.Z. University team 1935. A. Wendt. Age 27. At present left wing and playing into the position particular]}' well, has seen seven seasons of hockey. Earlier seasons at Levuka, past three seasons in Suva, where he has represented in most important matches during that time, as centre half and later in the forward line. Is a good middle distance runner, and has represented Suva in cricket teams. M. Fenn. Aged 28. As right half lie has played in representative matches over a period of several seasons. In 1935 in that position played in the three matches against the vjsiting N.Z. University team. During the past two seasons has played as centre forward in club matches. Represented v Levuka 1938.39. Is one of the most consistently sound halves at present playing in Fiji, and has a good sense of the game. R. Caine. Age 20. One of the younger players and one of the best. Is a most reliable left back. Is versatile, having represented Suva at hockey 1936-7-8-9 v Levuka and at cricket v visiting N.Z. team 1937. 11. F. Leaver. Age 29. Well known in Fiji as hockey centre half. As centre half he has played for s?vcral seasons, representing against the N.Z. University team 1935 in ail three matches, and in most representative matches of importance during the last three or four seasons. Adapts himself well to all is an excellent swimmer and a good cricketer.
Y. Jackson. Age 24. Has played six seasons hockey:—position right inner. Has speed, is quick and has po\ver to hit hard in the circle. Represented in the matchcs v N.Z. University team as right wing (193fi): and v Levuka 1938-9 as light inner. Sporting activities apart from hockey ccntrc around sailing. Was one of crew on yacht Ronda when she sailed from Suva to Auckland in twelve days in November last. (Continued foot previous column)
