WAIKATO LUCKY
DEFEAT OF THE BAY Waikata were rather fortunate to defeat Baj r of Plenty at Rugby Park, Hamilton, on Saturday by 11 points to 8. The game was played in a sea of mud. The lighter and faster Bay forwards, breaking quickly, oftmi took advantage of mistakes by t he Waikato backs t who attempted to ha<ndle the ball. Throughout the first spell and later in the second spell, Waikato kept the ball on the ground, and by sheer weight overwhelmed the visitors. Waikato's first try was a brilliant piece of work, all the backs handling for Aitken to add penetration and Perkins to score. R. Lees, the Bay of Plenty ? centre also scored a fine try, and it was unfortunate that the day was wet and the ground muddy, as the match showed promise of being brilliant.
