MEETING OF COMMITTEE MORE CLASSROOMS RECOMMENDED The Whakatane School Commit, tee held its monthly meeting last' week those present being the Rev. K. j! Watson (chairman), the Rev S. G. Caulton, and Messrs Wilson, F. Lysaght, Searle, Ferry, Raymond and G. Otlcy (secretary). An. apology for absence Avas receiA T ed from Mr H. D. Paterson. The headmaster, Mr C. C. Southey, Avas also present. Accounts amounting to £9 13s Id Ave re passed for payment. After the matter of the proposed site for the teacher's residence had been discussed, the secretary Avas instructed to telephone the Auckland Education Board and endeavour to expedite the matter in, view of the possibility of an early sale of the favoured site at a figure very much in adA'ance of the Government valiiaI tion. [ Mr Southey submitted his report Avhich shoAved that the primary ioll Avas at present 396. Schools are graded in September, and a roll of 400 AA'ould put Whakatane in another sub.grade and probably mean the appointment of another probationary assistant. The secondary roll Avas 82 Mr Seebeck Avould join the staff after the September holidays, Mr Sharkey relieving in the meantime. Mr Miller had recently A'isited the school and had promised to recommend the addition of at least laa'o class rooms. Mr Southey did not consider this sufficient. It seemed that the Bandroom Avould be required irdefinitely and as it had only one AvindoAV on the north side and a house was being built six yards away he recommended that an additional Avin. clow be put in. Mr Miller had authorised minor repairs, some of AA'hich had been put in hand and estimates AAere being obtained for the rest. With these exceptions buildings and grounds Avere in good order. Mr Southey reported that the paint ing of the infant school and repairs to its ceiling AA'ould be carried out in the near future. The secretary was instructed lo continue to press the board for additional accommodation. Tt Avas decided to ascertain whether the band would have an extra Avindow put in. Mr Watson raised the question of the supply of hot milk or cocoa during the Avinter months, and it was rcsoh<cd 'to make inquiries from the boa,rd Avith regard to equipment for this purpose. The secretary reported that no additional dental clinic funds had come ■n ricceritly and it Avas agreed that the chairman and the headmaster and staff should confer on the subject of holding a children's fancy dress ball to supplement the clinic funds. Other means of raising money Avere also discussed.
