o ) - SUGGESTIONS FROM PUBLIC v.. BOROUGH COUNCIL REQUEST A request that the BEACON should give publicity to the need for a suit- w able name for the centennial park at The* Heads was made by Cr, IV.. Sullivan at Monday night's meeting of the Whakatnne Borough Council. He said that probably there residents fa,m!liar with some features of Maori history who could suggest a name. He thought that Muriwal j, Park might be suitable. Thq Centenryal branch of the In_ ternal Affairs Department wrote asking what feature was to be incortpor-' uted at the park to record the fact '-hat it was i centennial memorial. The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, sauf y that he was not in favour of heavy artificial-looking gates, or anything like that. He thought a plaque could be incorporated somewhere sett'ng out that it was a centennial park. Cr Sullivan agreed that a plaque would be suitable. It could be placed on the big reek in the same way as on Pohaturoa Rock. If they asked- , ?or public suggestions for a name they might get something very suit_ sble. The Mayor agreed that residents should be asked to submit names lor the park.
