DELAYS TO SHIPPING y The district came through the rain -I well with little damage to main - roads. The Winter Show suffered i.i- - but apart from that 1 the main affect of the gale was to delay shipping. The Vesper and the Toa should berth today if the sea on the bar moderates. Fo-r the 24 hours to 9 a.m. yester--2 day .88 inches of rain were record. fed. On Tuesday .3 inches fell and on } Wednesday ,2S making a total of 1.19 3 which is also the rainfall to date for the month. In the same period last year .41 inches had fallen. So far this year 9.84 inches have been re- „ corded compared with 31.67 over the i first half of last year. These figures are supplied by Mr H. Muscutt, Whakatane.
