THE AUCKLAND MEETING principal events at the Auckland Winter Meeting have been accorded splendid acceptances and in. eluded in the large attendances at Ellerslie on June 3rd, sth and 7th will be thousands of country visitors, thus evidencing their partiality for 4< The Sport of Kings.'' With 23 in the Cornwall Handicap, - a great race should result. Present favourites are Gold Vaa]s, Gay Rose, Roj-evrus and Cheva] de Voice. The Great Northern Hurdles list numbers 20, of which the favourite -•<l:vision comprises Charade, Mio Lume Royal Dance, Agog and Bryce Street. Xo less than 24 have been listed for "the Great Northern Steeplechase, to he run over 3% miles of 25 obstacles. No really outstanding cross country candidate is engaged, nevertheless "the field will be a strong one, Expected to be prominent in, the settlement of this £1775 event are Bryce "Street, All Irish, Power Chief and '"Mio Lume.

BAY OF PLENTY MEETING (By Zetland) Very satisfactory nominations have been received for the Bay of Plenty fixture on June 17th, and the contests generally should be of a high standard. The Opotiki Handicap, one niilJ and a quarter, will be the principal flat event of the meeting, and with such open class performers as Gay Hose, Gold Vnals, King Rey, Black Musk, Black Thread Kena and De ' 5 Friend engaged, the race should be well worth travelling a long way to witness. Until the handicaps are declared after the Auckland Winter Meeting, there will be no favourite division, but if any of those mentioned should show to especial advantage at Ellerslie on June 3rd, sth and 7th their chances at Gate Pa will doubtless be highly assessed. Racing thrills will probably be reserved for the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase, two and a half miles, in which there may be eleven of the sixteen nominated, lining up at the bar. rier. Class is not especially well represented, but quite a fair average field of jumpers should be in the contest. In the meantime All Irish, Biform, Roxy, Gadger and Wasp will be the fancied quartette. Biform and Wasp were among the winners at the Waikato meeting, while All Irish also registered good performances. The one mile and three-quarters Otara Hurdles entrants include several very capable jumpers, of which Count Roussilion, Innes Lad and Gadger are best known. A surprise nomination is that of King Rey who would only have to be back to his best form to register a runaway victory. It will be interesting to note on June 9th what weight the handicapper allots the Raceful gelding, who last year was considered to be the best handicap horse in the Auckland province. A NOTABLE ENTRANT I Included in the entries for the K. S. Williams' Memorial Handicap to be run at Tauranga is the Hunting Song representative, Sly Fox. Last season he was well in the limelight, and performed very prominently both at Ellerslie and Trentham, and was favourite for the New Zealand Cup. During the present season he has not been competing widely, his connections probably preferring to await the easier tracks. That time has arrived and racing patrons at Gate Fa may have the pleasure of witnessing Sty Fox once more in action.
