ENGINEER'S REPORT
WORK IN PAST MONTH Tlie Engineer,, Mr C. H. Brebner, reported as follows to the Whakatane County at, its meeting on Wednesday, on works carried out during the past month. Sheathing planks or truss bridge. Waimana, have been placed behind piles at one end to hold approach filling which was in danger of caving in. The construction of Johnston's Road Bridge has now been completed. The construction of a reinforced concrete culvert on Hodge's Road, Waiiman.a, together with formation and metalling of approaches, has also been completed. The metalling or the approaches to Newton's bridge has been carried out during the past month. The construction of the Awa. iti bridge, Otakiri Soldiers Road, has been put in'hand, it being the inten tion to complete this bridge before the bridge gang and gear are removed from that locality. Seven culverts had been installed. The Hostel ford on the Ohope Beach Road lias been filled in (and improved) with metal. Holes on the above road have also been patched with metal. Patching and filling hole* has been carried out on the Onepu Springs Roacl and corners on the Waiiuii and Ohope Hill Roads have also been metalled. Drains in Railway Road East are being cleaned and deepened where necessary before the winter. Road Improvements The widening and straightening of narrow sections of • Ross Road is lving continued. The cutting back :f several dangerous corners on the Te Teko.Galatea lload is still in progress. The construction of Kirkbride's Road deviation has also been completed and metalling is in, hand. The construction of a concrete footpath on the Edgecumbe Station road was completed during the month. The widening, straightening and bank ing of sections of Railway Road East is being carried out and the raising of a low portion subject to flooding is under way. Good progress has again been made this month with the re-formP'tion of the Minginui Road. The Riverslea-Otakiri Road, Brights Road Raroa Road. Bell's lload and Thornton Road were graded during the past mouth. The £>0 metalling contracts on Railway Road A Vest and Beil's Road have been completed. The small balance from last financial year on Nuku hou Riding Roads has been expended. while Ros 5 Road and ThorntonEdgccumbe lload metalling has also been completed. The metalling of Bright's Road, and Opouriao Riding Roads is in hand. Scrub in the Pukaahu Domain Reserve has been, cut and the drains have been cleaned out and the sheathing repaired.
