WIND AND RAIN

BOATS BAR-BOUND

Heavy squalls of rain tylew in from seawards on Wednesday and Thursday drenching Whakatane and whirl ing the last leaves off the trees, Dbt that seems to be all the damage that so far has been caused. No roads were blocked by slips as far as the BEACON could find out last night, and evidently not enough rain has fallen to do damage. A heavy sea is running outside and the bar is not workable. Consequently Parry Brothers' Vesper is stiill lying at the wharf ready to sail for Auckland and yesterday the Toa vas sheltering at Whale Island,, waiting a chance to cross the bar. A change to south-west would flatten the sea out and sofve the problem.
