DOG TRIALS

HOW THE WINNERS WORKED

[ Mr C. MeKenzie, Aw.akeri, who acted as judge when the jWhakataue iSjpoep Dog Trial Club held their annual trials on Mr W. G. Roberts* property, has supplied the following notes on the running the actual results being given an page 7.

The sheep were very stiff to work on the first two days, but on the last day of the trials they were very lively and tested the dogs out to do some very good runs. In the Huntawa.y event Mr S. James' Wag lifted the sheep in good style to put them through all sets of flags without any trouble. Mr T. Garlick's Jock hunted a bit rashly to start with. It put the sheep through the -first two sets of flags. One sheep missed the last set of flags and the dog had to do some smart work to get the sheep back on the course before time was called.

In Class 2 Mr James' Wag again worked well, casting to the right, lift ing the sheep quietly and pulling in on a good line to put the sheep in the ring in a good position. The ring work was good. H. SisanVs Glen cast out well to the right, headed very fast and lifted the sheep nicely. The dog pulled slightly to the right. Ring work was good.

In Class 3 the winner was Mr T. Garlick's Patricia. She made a, right hand cast and a fair head and lifted the sheep quietly taking them right through the pegs to complete the yard in good time. Mr C. Gordon's Pat cast to the right and headed in fair time but went too far around the sheep, losing time before lifting them. The dog w r as a bit rash in the pull. The drive was good and the yard work was also satisfactory to yard in good time.
