TOUCHED ON TENDER SPOT
COST OF PAINTING HOUSE
The Whakatane Borough Council rocked, shuddered, gasped and went through several other of horror, pain and bewilderment when, at Monday night's meeting, it was disclosed that the sole tender for painting the borough electrical engineer's house was £92 Bs. First to speak w T as Cr G. Otley wiio, under the stress of great emotion, faltered out that the matter should be deferred.
Cr W. Sullivan pulled himself together with a visible eflort aid, offered to get tenders from Opotiki' painters if Whakatane men could not handle the job at a reasonable pri;-e.
Mr D. V. Saunders, town clerk, said admittedly it was quite a big job and painters had only had a week to consider a price. He had approach ed three or four firms.
The tender was not accepted and Cr Sullivan was authorised to endeavour to have prices submitted.
