FIRE PREVENTION

THE WHAKATANE BOARD

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The following report was submit-' ted by the Chairman Mr S .S. Shap_ ley, at the annual medting of the Whakatanc Fire Board held in . the Borough office last week:

Estimate of Expenditure: The estimated expenditure of the Board tn Revenue Account for the year was £705, contributed as follows; New Zealand Government £50, Whakatanc Borough Council £327 10s, Insurance Companies £327 10s.

Property and Plant: The property and plant of the Board is being main, tained in good order and condition. .Further capital expenditure upon plant and equipment was necessary" in, order that the brigade function efficiently. The years estimates included provision for the installation of an automatic alarm system with call points provided throughout the borough, and further, the provision of an additional siren to be erected to serve the distant borough suburbs. Through unforseen delay delivery of all the plant has not yet been made, but it is trusted that throughout the next few months the installation of the system will bei completed. In this matter the Board wishes to place on record its appreciation the valuable help and advice rendered by Superintendent Wilson of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Brigade.

Finance: The Financial Statement presented herewith detail the transactions of the Board and its financial position as at March 31 la^t.

Brigade: During the year Superintendent G. Syme resigned from membership of the Brigade. Mr F. H. SteAA'art Avas appointed by the Board to this position.

The Board Avishes to express its appreciation at the loyal and efficient service rendered by all members of the Brigade during the year.
