GIFT TO INSPECTOR
MR MARKS RETIRES FROM COUNTY COUNCIL A valued servant of the Whaka. tane County Council was farewellod on Thursday afternoon when the County Inspector, Mr H. J. Marks, was met by members of the council's works committee and presented with a mantel clock. Mr Marks after nine and a half years service has rc_ signed from the staff of the council to take a position at Galatea. A tribute was paid to big efficiency by Mr J. G. Cliff McCuH loch, chairman who said that Mr Marks had carried out extremely difficult duties in a very tactful manner under much unavoidable criticism. From his experience as councillor and chairman the speaker said he knew how admirably Mr Marks had done his work and how fairly and justly he had treated everyone. He wished Mr Marks sue. cess and happiness in his new occupation. Mr Marks thanked the council for their kindness. He had not expected the gift and he appreciated it. His [ association with the council had been pleasant and he thanked the council and its staff for the co.optration and- good-fellowship that had made the work pleasant.
